An advanced placement course is designed at the rigor of the freshmen college level.   It is a challenging, and rewarding, program but is not an “honors” course, it is an advanced level course designed specifically to qualify students for college credit and as such it will have a higher level of rigor. The good news is that over the course of this year you will learn to work and succeed at higher level than your peers, and take away college credit when you earn a 3 or higher on the AP exam.

BENEFITS OF TAKING APUSH.

  • Stand Out in College Admissions
Deciding to take an A.P. course lets colleges and universities know that you have what it takes to succeed in an undergraduate
             environment.
  • Earn College Credits
By taking an AP course and scoring successfully on the related AP Exam, you can save on college expenses.  According to the College                     Board the average public four-year college student should expect to pay $7,605 in tuition for each year of attendance.  They go on to
explain that passing an AP course can save the student/parent between 750 - 1500$. When you add in cost for books and time spent
studying for class an AP course adds up to a considerable savings especially since at RHS you take the AP course and exam for free.
  • Skip Introductory College Classes
If you already know your preferred college major, taking a related AP course and earning a qualifying score on the AP Exam can help                 you advance and avoid required introductory courses – so you can move directly into upper-level classes and focus on the work that                       interests you most.
  • Build College Skills
Taking an AP course builds the skills you'll need throughout your college years. By taking an AP course, you aren't just distinguishing                   yourself in high school and in the college admission process: you are also building the skills you'll need throughout your college years.                         Since AP courses give you the opportunity to get your hands on college-level work while still in high school, you'll get a great
idea of what to expect when you move onto the next phase of your educational journey.
